Senior Staff Software Engineer - Delta

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer at Databricks, you will shape robust backend systems that power Databricks workspaces at massive scale. You’ll help design and maintain the next-generation platform for workspace assets, delivering high QPS, low latency, and reliable performance. You’ll provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, guiding architecture and cross-team initiatives. This role combines hands-on engineering with strategic influence to advance the Delta DML backend and platform roadmap, in a mission-driven environment.

• Design, develop and maintain robust backend systems powering Databricks workspaces
• Build the next-generation platform for serving workspace assets with high throughput and low latency
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior engineers
• Debug and optimize low-level systems performance on large production clusters
• Architect and influence product roadmaps, taking ownership of new projects
• Introduce tooling to improve automation and operability of services
• Prevent and investigate production issues leveraging deep experience
• Plan and lead complex technical projects involving multiple teams
• Lead sprint planning, mentor teammates, and participate in project planning

• 15+ years of experience building and supporting large-scale distributed systems
• Comfortable with pursuing a multi-year vision with incremental deliverables
• Strong focus on delivering customer value and measurable impact
• Solid foundation in algorithms and data structures and their real-world use cases
• Experience driving company initiatives toward customer satisfaction
• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related majors, or equivalent experience
